Self Care

By taking the time to prioritize your pelvic health on Self-care Sunday, you're investing in your overall well-being and paving the way for a healthier, happier you. Consider any of the following:

Relaxation Techniques: Practicing relaxation techniques can help to reduce stress and tension in your pelvic area. Deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, or gentle yoga poses can help relax tight pelvic floor muscles and promote relaxation throughout your body.

Mindful Movement: Engaging in gentle movement practices, such as yoga or Pilates, can support pelvic health. These low-impact exercises can help improve flexibility, circulation, and pelvic floor muscle activation.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Strengthening Exercises: Performing pelvic floor exercises, such as kegels or pelvic floor contractions can help to strengthen the muscles that support your pelvic organs, improving bladder and bowel control, sexual function, and overall pelvic stability. To find out how to perform these exercises correctly and/or if they are right for you, consult a pelvic health physiotherapist.

Hydration and Nutrition: Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, helps to maintain healthy pelvic function. Incorporating  bowel and bladder friendly foods into your meals, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, can also help to support optimal pelvic health.

Rest and Recovery: Allowing yourself to rest and recharge by taking breaks and changing positions throughout the day can help decrease pelvic pain and pressure. Incorporating periods of restorative rest, such as lying down with a pillow under your knees or using a supportive cushion  and stool while sitting, can help to alleviate pressure on your pelvic floor muscles.

Self-care: Including self-care time into your day can help decrease stress, promote improved well being  and help relaxation of tight muscles including your pelvic floor. Practicing  mindfulness techniques  or daily meditation helps quiet the  mind. Warm showers or baths with Epsom salts can help  soothe sore muscles or try incorporating massage therapy sessions into your routines.
